Mrs. Thacker is in her 18th year as principal of Ida Burns and her 22nd year of administration overall. Prior to beginning her administrative tenure, she taught for 20 years in the elementary classroom and resource in four different Arkansas school districts.
Her educational background includes a B.S.E. in Special Ed., a M.S.E. in Reading and certification in Administration all of which were earned at the University of Central Arkansas. She has also completed 45 hours of graduate study above her Masters at the University of Central Arkansas.
During the time which Mrs. Thacker was a teacher, she received the "Teacher of the Year" award while teaching at two different elementary schools in the Conway District. Mrs. Thacker is committed to the proposition that elementary education should form a seminal basis for a lifetime of learning and social responsibility by students.
She believes that achievement of those goals is dependent upon dedicated teachers who continually emphasize character development to students, and who strive to develop their desire to learn through translation of evolving educational theory into classroom practice by means of proficient instruction and ongoing self improvement.
Ms. Burcham has been assistant principal for 5 years at Ida Burns, but has been in education for 27 years, as a first grade teacher, fourth grade teacher, sixth grade math teacher, and an Instructional Facilitator for Conway Public Schools.
Ms. Burcham has a BSE in Elementary Education from U of A Fayetteville, a Masters in Curriculum from UCA, and her principal licensure and Educational Specialist degree as Curriculum Director from ASU Jonesboro.
Some of her hobbies include teaching Jazzercise as a certified Jazzercise Instructor, reading, laying by the pool, and playing Words with Friends. :)
Ms. Burcham says, "I have a passion for children and a love for curriculum. I am excited about the opportunity to serve as Assistant Principal at Ida Burns Elementary. I believe it has the greatest teachers, faculty, and staff I've ever had the privilege of working with." She believes that education is the ticket to a better way of life.
